Mr. Walter B. Acker, 77, of Bartlesville, and Grand Lake area resident,
Phillips Petroleum Company Supervisor of Oil and Gas Liquids, died at 8:20 A.M.
on Monday May 5, 2014 in Bartlesville.
Local Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the Stumpff Funeral Home Chapel with Father Archie Fernandez of the St. James Catholic Church officiating.
Services at Muenster Texas, will be a Visitation Thursday, May 8, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. at the Scott Funeral Home in Muenster Texas, and a Mass of Christian Burial on 10:00 A.M. Friday May 9, 2014 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery on Friday at Muenster Texas by the Scott Funeral Home of Muenster Texas. Local arrangements and services were under the direction of the Stumpff Funeral Home & Crematory.
Memorial contribution may be made to the Journey Home (3406 S.E. Kentucky, Bartlesville, OK, 74006) or to Home Hospice of Cooke County (316 E. Chestnut, Gainesville, TX, 76240).
Mr. Acker was born on December 19, 1936 at Nazareth, Texas to Valentine P. and Mary Margaret (Brockman) Acker. He was raised and received his education at Nazareth, graduating High School with the Class of 1954. He later attended a trade school there before entering the U.S. Army in 1956, serving until his Honorable Discharge in November of 1958. He was first married to Mary Catherine Walterscheid on November 14, 1959 at Muenster, Texas. They made their first home at Midland, Texas where he was employed by the Phillips Petroleum Company, until they relocated to Bartlesville, Oklahoma in Oct. of 1962 with Phillips. Mrs. Mary Acker preceded him in death in January of 1996. He later married Tanis Evans on September 19, 1998 at Dewey, Oklahoma at the Rose Hill Community Church. They made their home in Bartlesville and at their lake home on Grand Lake for the past 16 years. His hobbies were golf, fishing, gardening, reading westerns and crossword puzzles. He was a member of the St. James Catholic Church.
Mr. Acker is survived by his wife Tanis Acker of the home, by two sons Rick Acker of Owasso, Oklahoma, and Randy Acker and wife Diane of Moses Lake, Washington, by a daughter Dayna Tennison of Bartlesville, OK, by three brothers Luke Acker and wife Mona, and Don Acker and wife Betty both of Nazareth, Texas, and by Louis Acker and wife Pamela of Amarillo, Texas, and sisters May Hochstein and husband Jerry Stein of Amarillo, and Joan Melcher and husband Doug of Holly Colorado, by four step children David Evans and wife Sheba of Paola, Kansas, Mark Evans and wife Terri of Owasso, Oklahoma Scott Evans and wife Amy of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and Eric Evans and wife Cathy of Bartlesville, and sisters–in–laws Ginny Schneider and Patsy Walterscheid, both of Muenster, Texas and brother–in–law Willy Walterscheid and wife Queenie also of Muenster, Texas, and by 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. In addition to his wife, Mary Catherine he was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother Fred and sisters Verna and Ellen and by a grandson Stephen.
