A
memorial service for Dorothy Marion McCoy Thompson, age 85 of Saint Jo, is set
for 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 19, 2014 at First United Methodist Church in Saint
Jo with Rev. Larry Coleman officiating. Dorothy died early Sunday morning, July
13, 2014.
Dorothy Marion Thompson of Saint Jo, TX was born September 29, 1928 to E.C. and
Omega McCoy in Ashland, KY.
Dorothy married Rev. George Albert Thompson, Sr. on June 9, 1953 at the Irving
United Methodist Church. Their life of serving God through ministry began at
Spanish Fort, TX and continued throughout many other churches in Texas. They
then retired after serving Callisburg United Methodist Church to make their
home in Saint Jo, TX and serve in a new capacity at Saint Jo United Methodist
Church. She has been very involved in children's ministry and United Methodist
Women for many years. She loved to see the love of Jesus come into the eyes of
the children.
Dorothy is survived by: her daughter, Stella and husband Randy Fowler of
Sunset, TX; her sons: George A. and wife Savitra Thompson, Jr of Austin,
Charles L. and wife Mary Thompson of Lexington, KY and John P. and wife Cathy
Thompson of Saint Jo; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was
preceded in death by her husband, parents, sisters: Louise Buck, Alma Tumey,
and Alice Venarelle; son, Walter Thompson; and half-brother, Charles Edward
McCoy.
