Velma Earlene (Brackeen) McBride

     1946 – 2014
     Velma Earlene (Brackeen) McBride was born November 15, 1946 in Gainesville, Texas. She married WJ “Dub” McBride on December 29, 1966 and they became the proud parents of two children. They made their home and raised their children in Saint Jo. Velma died Wednesday, November 26, 2014 in Denton.
     Velma is survived by her husband, Dub McBride of Saint Jo; daughter and son-in-law, Laura and Mike Barnett of Springfield, MO; grandchildren: Byron and Bailie Aston; great grandchildren: Bentley, Brison and Michael; her mother Ruby Brackeen of Gainesville; and several brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her father, LeRoy Brackeen, son, Eric McBride, and brother, Arvil Brackeen. 


Dorothy Hartman

     1919- 2014
     Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy Hartman, age 95 of Muenster is set for 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster with Father Ken Robinson officiating. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Scott Funeral Home of Muenster. A Rosary/Vigil will be held 6:00 PM, Tuesday, November 25, 2014 also at the church. Dorothy died Sunday, November 23, 2014 at her home.
     Dorothy was born on the Hartman farm on October 27, 1919, to John J. and Helena Hess Hartman. She lived there most of her life, helping with the farming, milking cows, picking cotton and corn. She was baptized by Father Frowin in Sacred Heart Church and attended the red brick school house.
     At age 18 she went to work for Dr. T. S. Myrick as a night nurse for the Muenster clinic he was opening. She had on-the-job training for babies and the women who had them. She worked for 2 years at night, then switched to days. She worked as an office nurse, bookkeeper, and clinic nurse. She did everything except surgery. She assisted in bringing hundreds of babies into the world, treating many of her own nieces and nephews and their children.
     She served with Dr. Myrick until his death in 1959, then with Dr. S. E. Saiken who came from Gainesville several days a week. She also worked with Dr. Kenneth Dobbs before he moved to Dallas. During a two-year time period when there was no doctor and no hospital in Muenster, she was a check-out clerk at Hofbauer’s Grocery Store.
     She was involved in the fund drive for the new hospital and helped with the moving in of supplies. When the Muenster Memorial Hospital opened its doors she served on the staff for six months. She then went to work for Dr. B. F. Hejduk, the resident physician and surgeon, working as his office nurse and assisting in surgeries. She worked for Dr. Kralicke for 8 years and Dr. Juarez for 9 years. She retired in 1984.
     She served as the local registrar for precinct 8 for 37 years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters of America, served as a Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart, and served on the parish liturgical commission.
     In May of 1975 she received the Jaycees Outstanding Citizen Award. In 2003 she was honored for 25 years of service to the Muenster Senior Center. The Muenster Memorial Hospital recognized her at their 50th anniversary as the first employee, Nurse Assistant, February 3, 1964.
     She was very active in SNAP, loved crocheting and quilting. She enjoyed traveling, crafts, and playing cards and dominoes. She was an avid Texas Ranger and Dallas Cowboy fan, rarely missing a game on TV. She was a citizen of Muenster her entire life.
     She is survived by 30 nieces and nephews, numerous great-nieces and nephews, and many great-great-nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Steve Corocoran, Justin Hartman, Craig Hartman, Jacob Endres, Jeff Flusche, Joseph Dangelmayr, Alan Thompson, and Kirk Hartman.


James Ray "Red" Martin

     1930- 2014
     Funeral service for James “Red” Martin, age 83 of Montague, is set for 10:00 AM, Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at the Church of Christ in Saint Jo with Chester Cullum, C.E. Cole and Steve Chism officiating. Burial will follow in Mountain Park Cemetery under the direction of Scott Funeral Home of Saint Jo. A visitation will be held 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at Scott Funeral Home in Saint Jo. Mr. Martin died Saturday, November 22, 2014.
     James Ray (Red) Martin was born on December 17, 1930 in Myra, Texas. Red was one of eleven children born to William Burl Martin and Zena Pearl (Warner) Martin. Red married the love of his life, Betty Lue Dunn on January 7, 1950 in Montague, Texas.
     Red was a member of the Church of Christ. Red was a loving husband of 62 years. He enjoyed playing cards and dominos with his family as well as visiting and playing with his grand and great-grandchildren. He loved fishing, gardening, canning, and wood-working. He also loved for his daughters to sing hymns to him. He was a past member of the Alvord In-N-Out coffee drinkers club.
     Red is survived by his daughters and spouses Linda and Jr. Thweatt, Penny and Jimmy Johnson, all of Alvord, Texas, Staci and Dale Romine of Montague, Texas; son Tom and wife, Linda Martin of Gainesville; grandchildren and spouses Lance Thweatt, DJ and Bri Thweatt, Jamie and Caitlin Johnson, Andy Johnson, Gregg and Jesse Romine, Ethan and Brittany Romine, Cody and Adrianne Martin, Casey and Heather Martin, Cyle and Sharissa Martin, 19 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson; sister Ruth Cain of Decatur, Texas and brother Bill Martin of Gainesville, Texas; sister-in-law Dee and C.E. (Sonny) Cole and brother-in-law, Melvin (Snooks) Dunn.
     Red was preceded in death by his loving wife, Betty Martin, his parents, William and Zena Martin; two grandchildren; two great grandchildren; sisters: Jo Hardison, Thelma Ritchie, Lois McVeigh, Johnnie Fern Martin and Clemmie Mae Martin; brothers: Charley Martin, Clinton Martin, and Roy William Martin.
     Pallbearers are his grandsons, Lance Thweatt, Jamie Johnson, Andy Johnson, Gregg Romine, DJ Thweatt, Ethan Romine and Eric Fox.

Dallie Dawn Allen

     1937- 2014
ARLINGTON -- Dallie Dawn Allen, 77, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2014.
Funeral: 11:30 a.m. Saturday, November 22, 2014 in Mount Olivet Chapel. Visitation: 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, November 21, 2014 at Mount Olivet and 3 p.m. Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Scott Funeral Home, St. Jo. Interment to follow at Dye Mound Cemetery under the direction of Scott Funeral Home of Muenster.
     Dallie was born May 29, 1937, in Decatur to the late Alan and Inez Kuykendall. She attended Handley elementary school and high school graduating in 1955. She was employed at Central Bank and Trust, and later in 1969 worked as an executive secretary for Pritchard & Abbott Appraisal Services for 31 years before her retirement. Dallie was a gifted artist and oil painter who won many first place ribbons and sold her art in galleries throughout Texas. She was a devoted wife and caretaker to her husband Ernest throughout his lengthy illness. Dallie has many friends and family that loved her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ernest O. Allen; and parents.
     Survivors: Daughter, Tamara Allen; sister, Bowery Prater; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved cat, Red. 

Maurus Rudolph Rohmer

     1933- 2014
     Mass of Christian Burial for Maurus Rudolph Rohmer, age 81 of Muenster are set for 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 22, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster with Father Ken Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Scott Funeral Home of Muenster. A Rosary and Vigil will be held at 7:00, Friday, November 21, 2014 at the funeral home. Mr. Rohmer died Thursday, November 20, 2014.
     The youngest of 12 children, Maurus was born in the family home to John A. and Mary Helen (Hesse) Rohmer on July 29, 1933. He graduated from Sacred Heart School in 1951. On September 29, 1953, Maurus joined the US Army and served in Lakenheath, England. Upon his return to the United States, he was discharged on August 23, 1955. In 1956, Maurus started working at National Supply Company in Gainesville in the assembly department where he continued to work for 31½ years until his retirement. He was a member of the VFW, the Knights of Columbus and the Sacred Heart Parish.
     Maurus married Patricia A. Neu on April 24, 1965 at St. Mary’s Church in Gainesville where they continued to live until moving to Muenster in 1968. Maurus and Pat were the proud parents of one son, David.
     Maurus is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia (Neu) Rohmer, son and daughter-in-law, David and Karissa Rohmer of Bluegrove, Texas; sisters, Loretta Spaeth, Dorothy Wright, Sister Romana Rohmer; in-laws: Agnes Rohmer, Marjorie Rohmer, Jeanne Hoenig, Clara Mae Taylor, Stella and Wilson Stinnett, Donna Boschert, Connie Neu, Phyllis and David Neu, and Bob Dorsch. He was preceded in death by his parents, John A. and Mary Helen (Hesse) Rohmer, sisters: Ida Rohmer and Sister Fidelis Rohmer; brothers: Lawrence, Joseph, Victor, Emil, Alfred, and Tony.
     Pallbearers were Terry Rohmer, Greg Rohmer, Kenny Rohmer, Chris Rohmer, James Wright, and Everett Spaeth.

Eileen Cunningham Luke

     1926- 2014
     Mass of the Resurrection and Christian burial for Eileen Cunningham Luke of Muenster, Texas is set for 10:00 am on Thursday November 20, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster, Texas with Father Ken Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Scott Funeral Home of Muenster. A Rosary and Vigil will be held at 6:00 PM on Wednesday November 19, 2014 at Scott Funeral Home.
     Eileen Cunningham Luke died on Tuesday, November 17, 2014 in Muenster Memorial Hospital, Muenster, Texas following several strokes and a period of failing health. She was a devoted wife of WJ (Bill) Luke and the loving mother of Kathy Luke Hartman, Jim Luke, Carolyn Luke Powell and Nancy Luke Webster and the treasured grandmother to Jeff, Cindy, Preston, Emalee, Eric, Sarah, Amy, Megan, Tara, Brad and Mark. Eileen loved and adored her daughter-in-law Beth Luke and sons-in-law Don Hartman, Mike Powell and Fray Webster.
     Eileen Luke was born on December 10, 1926, the daughter of Joseph and Margaret Cunningham in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She graduated from Marquette High School in 1945 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She married WJ (Bill) Luke on February 12, 1955 in Christ The King Catholic Church in Tulsa. After living in Midland, Fort Worth and Odessa, they moved to Muenster to raise their family.
     Eileen was an active member of Sacred Heart Church, was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Choir, Catholic Daughters, and Muenster Garden Club.
Survivors are her husband Bill Luke, son and daughter-in-law Jim and Beth Luke of London, England; daughters and sons-in-law Kathy and Don Hartman of Muenster, Carolyn and Mike Powell of Muenster and Nancy and Fray Webster of Colleyville, Texas; brother Bernard Cunningham of Amarillo, Texas; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
     Eileen Cunningham Luke was preceded in death by her parents Joseph and Margaret Cunningham, sister Louise Olsen, brothers Joseph Cunningham II and Robert Cunningham.

Ramon Dan Hamric

     1940- 2014
     Mass of Christian Burial for Dan Hamric, age 73 of Muenster is set for 10:00 AM, Tuesday, November 18, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster with Father Ken Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Scott Funeral Home of Muenster. A vigil is set for 5:30 PM, Monday, November 17, 2014 at the church. Dan died at his home on Saturday, November 15, 2014.
     Born on December 4, 1940, Dan was one of the two children of Ervin and Bertha (Wieler) Hamric. He married Fay (Rude) Hamric in El Paso on June 8, 1962 and they became the proud parents of two daughters and one son.
     Dan worked for many years in the education system, as a teacher, principal, superintendent, and coach. He was a math teacher in Muenster ISD and Anthony, New Mexico. He was also a principal at Forestburg ISD. After retiring as Superintendent of schools at Montague ISD, Dan continued to work part time as a golf coach in Lindsay and Muenster.
     Dan was very involved in the Muenster community. He served on the hospital board. He was a member of the Kiwanis Club and was a Co-Chairman of the German Fun Run from its inaugural year, 1976 and twenty-five more years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, a Jaycee, and the Knights of Columbus, having served as the Grand Knight in the past. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. His presence will be missed by all those who knew him.

     Dan is survived by his wife, Fay Hamric of Muenster; daughters: Danna Rae and husband, Brian Hess of Muenster and Lisa Rene and Marcus Sadler of Muenster; son: Robert Darryl (Bob) and wife, Rhonda Hamric of Bridgeport; brother, Burt and wife Peggy Hamric of Houston, TX; grandchildren: Casey Hamric, Katy Fay Morris, Erin Hess, Halle Hess, and Dayne Sadler. He was preceded in death by his parents. Pallbearers are: Mike Bartush, Craig Monday, Steve Hennigan, Tim Schneider, Dusti Etter, and Jared Flusche. Honorary Pallbearers are: Lynn Heller, Ronnie Hess, Roy Monday, Gerald (Bud) Graham, Larry Wimmer, and Tommy Cook.

Lorena Clara Fisher Taylor

A Rosary/Vigil will be held at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Scott Funeral Home of Muenster.
    Lorena Taylor passed away Saturday, November 8, 2014 at the Muenster Hospital, Muenster, TX. She was born November 4, 1921, the daughter and eleventh of twelve children of Emma and Joe Fisher, Sr. in Muenster, TX. She was in the first graduation class of Sacred Heart High school in 1939. Lorena went on to attend Our Lady of Victory College in Fort Worth, TX and North Texas State University (now University of North Texas), where she received a teaching degree While teaching in Wichita Falls, Lorena met Charles (Chuck) Taylor and they were married on September 17, 1941 in Sacred Heart Church in Muenster. They became the proud parents of three sons and one daughter.
    While Chuck served in the Army, the family lived in many places around the world, including Washington, D.C., Kansas, Georgia, Louisiana and Ohio. In 1947, Lorena traveled on a transport ship to the Philippines for 23 days with three young children and over a hundred wives and their children. In 1956 and after Chuck’s retirement from the Army, the family settled on a farm south of Muenster. Even after Chuck’s death in 1963, the family continued to live on the farm.
    Lorena began working in 1964 for the new hospital, Muenster Memorial Hospital, until her retirement in 1986. After selling the farm, Lorena built a home in town where she continued to live until her death.
    Lorena is survived by her sons, Roger and wife, Jane Taylor and Steve and wife, Doreen Taylor all of Muenster, TX and daughter, Ginny Mangum of Tacoma, Washington, 10 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: her husband Chuck Taylor, all eleven of her brothers and sisters, and by one day by her son, Jerry Taylor, who was survived by his wife, Jane and sons, Charlie and Jim of the home.
    Pallbearers were: Adam Taylor, Sandy Valentine, Nick Taylor, Laura Taylor, Charlie Taylor, and Jim Taylor. Honorary Pallbearer was Willie Fisher.

Steve David Yosten

     A Rosary for Steve David Yosten, age 47 of Plano, will be held 7:00 PM at Scott Funeral Home of Muenster. A Memorial Mass is set for 12:00 PM, Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster with Father Ken Robinson officiating. Steve died unexpectedly on Saturday, November 1, 2014.
     One of three children, Steve was born on July 18, 1967 in San Angelo, TX to David and Susan (Bean) Yosten. He grew up in Plano and graduated from Plano High School. After attending North Texas State University (now University of North Texas) for a few years, Steve went to work for JC Penney in the IT Department where he established the entire web system for the company.
     Steve was gifted when it came to computers and technology and he loved riding his Harley Davidson. But the joy of his life was his nieces and nephew, London, Jack and Fletcher. Steve was a fantastic man, brother, son, and uncle. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

     Steve is survived by his: father, David Yosten, of Plano; sister, Stephanie Diane Yosten of Arlington; brother, Terry and wife, Kimberley Yosten of Greenville; nieces and nephew: London, Jack, and Fletcher Yosten. He was preceded in death by his mother, Susan (Bean) Yosten and grandparents: Spike and Francis Yosten.
