LaVerne E. Homsley

     Funeral services for LaVerne E. Homsley, age 98 of Muenster were set for 10:00 AM Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Saint Jo Church of Christ. A graveside service was held at 2:00 PM on the same date at Poolville Cemetery, Poolville, Texas. Visitation was at 6:00 PM Tuesday at the McCoy Funeral Home in Muenster. Services were officiated by Jason Bentley and directed by McCoy Funeral Home.
     Mrs. Homsley died on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at her home.
     LaVerne was born on July 10, 1914 at Union Point in Jack County. She was one of the four daughters and one son of F.E. and Della Mae Hannah Weir. She married Herbert Howard Homsley on December 24, 1932 in Weatherford, Texas. They had been married some 53 years at the time of Howard’s death. They were the parents of 3 daughters, Queenie Walterscheid, Barbara Traweek and Margie Ann Fincher.
     LaVerne graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Home Economics. From there, she taught at numerous Texas schools, the last of which was at Muenster Public High School. Howard had been superintendent for several different schools in North Texas, the last 10 years of which were served in Muenster. LaVerne, in the meantime was teaching Home Economics at Muenster Public High. She taught there from 1954 until retirement in 1960. Still, until even now, LaVerne had received calls and letters from former students. They always expressed their gratitude for the many things she had taught them, including how to run a household and just life’s lessons. LaVerne was an amazing seamstress, fabulous cook and great homemaker. She lived her life walking with her Lord with a heart to serve him. She was truly an outstanding lady, a loving wife, mother, grand, great-grand and great-great grandmother and sister to her siblings. She was a friend to all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
     Survivors include: 2 daughters: Barbara F. “Butch” Traweek of Muenster, Queenie Walterscheid and husband Willie of Muenster; 8 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 9 great great-grandchildren.
     She was preceded in death by her: husband, Herbert Howard Homsley; daughter: Margaret Ann Fincher; parents: F.E. and Della Mae Weir; sisters: Velta Crow, Marie Barnett, Alma Spiller; brother: Finis Ewing Weir; granddaughter: Christie Dawn Walterscheid; Great-granddaughter: Crystal Lynn Douglas.
     Pallbearers were: Kim Walterscheid, Terry Walterscheid, Aaron Fincher, Jake Little, Tobe McCann, and Josh Little.

Thomas Preston Hare

     Graveside services for Thomas Preston Hare, age 92 of Saint Jo were set for 10:00 AM Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the Coker Cemetery near Bulcher, Texas. Services were officiated by Eddie Ramsey and directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Saint Jo. The graveside service included Masonic Rites and a Military Honor Guard. A visitation was held at the funeral home in Saint Jo at 7:00 PM Monday. Thomas died on Friday, May 24 at the Muenster Health and Rehab.
     Tommy was one of the 6 children of Thomas Leslie and Pauline Mitchell Hare. He grew up near Saint Jo (Montague and Cooke Counties) and attended school in Saint Jo. He later attended the University of Oklahoma, majoring in Petroleum Engineering. He also attended North Texas Agriculture College in 1942, just prior to entering the Army.
     Tommy spent 3 years in the US Army. There, he was a truck driver, a radar mechanic and a top turret gunner on the B-17. He had attended the Signal Corps School which qualified him as a radar repairman. Tommy married Virginia Sue Lamkin on September 2, 1960 in Gainesville. They were the parents of a son, Leslie. The family worked together for many years, living on a cattle ranch near the Red River close to Bulcher in Cooke County.
     Most of Tommy’s life, after the service, was spent in soil conservation. He had worked several years for a road building contractor, then, with his own heavy equipment, began working for the public in soil conservation. While doing this work, he also was busy in bailing hay and raising cattle. Tommy’s work may always be there for everyone to see and enjoy the results.
     Tommy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. One of his greatest joys was wrapped around his granddaughter, Rachel. He always bragged about her, showed everyone her pictures and showed her pictures from the past and telling her stories. Most of the stories and pictures were about his “growing up” days and just how life was at that time. Tommy’s eyes seemed to sparkle when anyone mentioned his granddaughter.
     Tommy never met a stranger. He always had time to visit with and help others. He really enjoyed the visiting experienced at the Saint Jo Dairy Queen. He was a friend to everyone that knew him and will be greatly missed!
     Tommy was a longtime member of the Fish Creek Masonic Lodge #344 in Marysville, Texas. He had received his 60 year pin from the lodge, in 2007.
     Tommy is survived by his wife, Virginia Sue, a son, Leslie Carl Hare of Montague, a granddaughter, Rachel Hare and a daughter-in-law, J’Lynn Hare of Muenster.
     He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Leslie and Pauline Hare; his sisters: Eunice Rummel, Edith Bragg, Helen Lefforge, and Velma Rufner; and his brother, Paul Hare.

Geraldine “Gerrie” Walterscheid

     Mass of Christian Burial for Geraldine “Gerrie” Walterscheid was set for 10:00 AM Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster. A Rosary/Vigil service was held at 4:00 PM Friday, May 24 at McCoy Funeral Chapel. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Services were officiated by Rev. Ken Robinson and directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Muenster. Mrs. Walterscheid died on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at the Denton Regional Hospital in Denton.
     “Gerrie” was born in Muenster on December 24, 1943. She was one of the 3 children of Martin Phillip and Pauline Marie “Lena Mae” (Schmitz) Trubenbach. She grew up in the Muenster community and attended Sacred Heart School through the 8th grade and then graduated high school at Muenster Public School. She later completed nursing school in Terrell, Texas from there she obtained her LVN license.
     “Gerrie” married Delbert Walterscheid on February 19, 1961 in Dallas, TX by Monsignor Weinzapfel. Her married life and nursing career had resulted in her living in places other than Muenster for brief periods of time; but, basically, she was a lifelong resident of Muenster.
     Gerrie is survived by two daughters: Delanne Walterscheid and spouse, Bert of Muenster and Michele Green and spouse, Rodney of Waxahachie. Also surviving is a son, Brad Walterscheid of Desoto, Texas. There are 8 grandchildren: Gayle and Chris Bevers, Justin Walterscheid, Emily and Daniel Fuhrman, Kendra Walterscheid, Ryan Green, Reece Green, Chris and Britney Walterscheid, and Josh Walterscheid, and 3 great-grandchildren: Ethan Bevers, Kylie Walterscheid, and Colt Walterscheid. She is also survived by one brother, Mike Trubenbach of Hernando, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Walterscheid, her parents, Martin and Pauline Marie “Lena Mae” Trubenbach, and her brother Donnie Trubenbach.
     Pallbearers were: Daniel Fuhrman, Chris Bevers, Justin Walterscheid, Ross Felderhoff, Jody Felderhoff, and Kenneth Walterscheid.

Della Mae (Hartman) Schmitt

     Mass of Christian Burial for Della Mae (Hartman) Schmitt, age 69 of Muenster, was held at 10:00 AM Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster. A Rosary/Vigil was held at 7:00 PM Friday, May 3 also at the church. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Services were officiated by Rev. Ken Robinson and Rev. Kyle Walterscheid and directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Muenster.
     Mrs. Schmitt died on Tuesday, April 30, 2013 at the Muenster Memorial Hospital.
     Della was born on June 7, 1943 on a farm south of Muenster. She was the seventh of eight children of Victor and Margaret (Bayer) Hartman. The family moved to Muenster when Della was three years of age. She grew up in Muenster where she attended and graduated Sacred Heart Catholic School.
     Della married Harvey Schmitt on August 24, 1963. They were married in Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she was a life-time member. She had been an officer in the Sacred Heart Home School Society and had served on the Sacred Heart Parish Council.
     Della loved working in her yard and especially loved growing and looking at the flowers. One of her favorite past times was camping with her family. She enjoyed her family and many friends and will really be missed by all who knew her.
     Della is survived by her: husband, Harvey B. Schmitt of Muenster; daughters and spouses: Vickie and Doug Fleitman of Muenster and Debbie and Don Neu of Muenster; son and spouse: Stephen and Michelle Schmitt of Tyler, TX; 9 grandchildren: Mikayla Fleitman, Mikenzie Fleitman, Michael Fleitman, Karli Anderle, Koby Hogan, Ryan Neu, Courtney Neu, Tim Schmitt, and Daniel Schmitt; sisters and spouses: Edna Tompkins of Arlington, TX, Georgia and Walter Wolf of Gainesville, TX, and Pat and John Yosten of Muenster; brothers and spouses: Alvin and Joan Hartman of Muenster, Gene and Judy Hartman of Denton, TX.
     Della was preceded in death by her: parents, Victor and Margaret Hartman, sister, Kathryn Gremminger, and brother, Willard Hartman.
     Pallbearers were: Kenny Hartman, Brian Tompkins, Robert Gremminger, Michael Hartman, Doug Hartman, Kevin Wolf, and Christy Bezner.

Eleanor C. (Schad) Felderhoff

     Mass of Christian Burial for Eleanor C. (Schad) Felderhoff, age 84 of Muenster was held at 10:00 AM Friday, April 19, 2013. A Rosary/Vigil was held at 7:00 PM Thursday. All services were at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Services were officiated by Rev. Ken Robinson and directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Muenster. Mrs. Felderhoff died on Wednesday, April 17, 2013 at her home in Muenster.
     Eleanor was born on March 13, 1929 in Gainesville. She was one of the 7 children of Joseph W. and Cora Lee Schad. She grew up in Gainesville where she graduated high school at St. Mary’s Catholic School in 1946. After graduation, she lived at home (until she married) and worked in the office at the Gainesville Ford dealership. After one year there, she worked in the Bookkeeping department in Gainesville National Bank for four years. After that a mutual friend introduced her to Frank Felderhoff. They dated and soon thereafter married on June 19, 1951 in St. Mary’s Church.
     Frank was a native of Muenster. He and Eleanor have lived in Muenster since their marriage. He was a veteran of WWII where he had served some 37 months in the war. After being discharged, he returned to Muenster where he worked for 41 years for Cooke County Electric. He and Eleanor were the proud parents of 2 daughters and 4 sons. After the children were older, Eleanor worked as a bookkeeper for Tuggle Motor Company for 6 years, and later at Muenster Memorial Hospital for 15 years.
     Eleanor was a member of Sacred Heart Parish, Catholic Daughters, St. Anne’s Society and the VFW Auxiliary. She enjoyed life with her family and friends immensely. She really loved partying with her family and playing cards (Hearts and/or Tripoli) with them and her friends. She was a great family lady and a friend to many. She will be greatly missed!
     Survivors include her: daughters and spouses: Patricia and Ronald Fuhrmann of Muenster, Marilyn and Dale Trevathan of Richland Hills; sons and spouses: John and Cheryl Felderhoff of Garland, Tim and Ramona Felderhoff of Muenster, Mark and Terrye Felderhoff of Ponder, TX, Terry Lee and Kristi Felderhoff of Gruver, TX; a sister and spouse, Mary Jo and Charles Naughton of Fort Worth. There are 15 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
     Eleanor was preceded in death by her: husband, Frank Joseph Felderhoff; parents Joseph W. and Cora Lee Schad; sisters: Beatrice Catherine Schad and Dorothy Mae Whitaker; brothers: Joe W. Schad, Jr., Paul Joseph Schad and Richard Phillip Schad.
     Pallbearers were: Ray Felderhoff, Josh Trevathan, Eric Felderhoff, Sean Fuhrmann, Ryan Fuhrmann, Derek Felderhoff, Travis Felderhoff, Aaron Felderhoff, and Honorary Pallbearer Matthew Felderhoff.

Jerry Lynn Kindiger

     Mass of Christian Burial for Jerry Lynn Kindiger, age 66 of Muenster was held at 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 16, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster. A Rosary/Vigil was held at 6:00 PM Monday, April 15 at the Funeral Home. Services were officiated by Rev. Ken Robinson and directed by McCoy Funeral Home. Burial was in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
     Mr. Kindiger died on Saturday, April 13, 2013 at his home.
     Mr. Kindiger (Jerry) was one of the 8 children of Aaron Victor and Mary Ruth Moseley Kindiger. He was born on February 7, 1947 in Gainesville and was raised in Era where he attended school. While growing up, he was active in school, especially in all sports. After graduating, Jerry enlisted in the US Navy in the late 1960’s, where he served for 4 years, a portion of which was in Vietnam. After being discharged, Jerry returned to Era, then became an Engineer for the Sante Fe Railroad. He retired from Sante Fe after 37 years service.
     Jerry had always been an “outdoorsman.” He really enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and anything else connected with the outdoors.
     Jerry was the father of two sons and grandfather of four. He and Joyce Swirczynski were married on July 14, 2000 in Las Vegas, Nevada. He had lived the past 23 years in Muenster. He will be missed by family and all who knew him.
     Jerry is survived by his wife, Joyce of Muenster; mother, Mary Ruth Kindiger of Leo; sons, Jaret and wife Alethea Kindiger of Leo and Jordan Kindiger of Austin; sisters and spouses, Bobbie Handford of Boliver, Gail and Joe Knight of Era, Karen and Eloy Gonzales of Bee Cave; brothers and spouses, Jim and Gail Kindiger of Whitesboro and Eddie and Treaon Kindiger of Callisburg. There are four grandchildren, Macie Kindger, Jacob Kindiger, Rae Ann Morris and Colton Morris, all of Leo.
     Jerry was preceded in death by his father, A.V. Kindiger, his sister, Ruth Ann McKinney and a brother Joe Kindiger.
     Pallbearers were: Stan Endres, Joe Knight, Craig Kindiger, Josh Kindiger, Ian Hanford, Carvin Moseley.

Mattie Inez (Hale) Dennis

     Funeral services for Mattie Inez (Hale) Dennis, age 92, was scheduled for 3:00 PM Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Saint Jo. Services were officiated by Dr. Larry Cornell and Rev. Ricky Kerr and directed by McCoy Funeral Home. A visitation was set for 1:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home. She was laid to rest in Mountain Park Cemetery following the church service.
     Mrs. Dennis died at 10:50 PM Tuesday, April 9, 2013 in Fort Worth.
Mattie was born May 23, 1920 in Electra, Texas. She was one of the six children of Charles Richard and Bessie Lee (Day) Hale.
     The family had moved from Electra to Saint Jo in 1934. They lived near Capps Corner where she was raised and attended the Spencer School. There she met and married Elvin Eli Dennis on October 10, 1936. They were blessed with 5 children, 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
     Mattie was a homemaker who loved to cook for her family and friends, all of which enjoyed the labor of love from her vegetable gardens. She was an avid reader and enjoyed tending to her flower gardens.
     Mattie is survived by: daughters: Frances Poynor of Saint Jo, TX, Pat Jones of Fort Worth, TX, sons: Richard Dennis and wife Jeannine of Pilot Point, TX, Arnold Dennis and wife Judy, of Saint Jo, TX. She is also survived by two brothers, Lee and Archie Hale of Gainesville, TX. She leaves loving memories to be cherished by 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin E. Dennis, son Elvin Dennis Jr., granddaughter Kay Tompkins, great granddaughter Jessica Tompkins, brother Bert Hale, and sisters Betty Haggard and Bessie Harrell.
     Pallbearers were her grandsons: Billy Poynor, Mark Dennis, Paul Dennis, Scott Dennis, Brian Jones, Richard Dennis, Charles Robert Dennis, and James Fuller.
