Mass of Christian Burial for Armella Lutkenhaus, age 89 of Muenster, is set for
10:00 AM Wednesday, January 15, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in
Muenster. A Rosary/Vigil service is scheduled for 7:00 PM Tuesday, January 14
at the McCoy Funeral Home in Muenster. Mrs. Lutkenhaus died at 2:00 AM Sunday,
January 12 in Gainesville.
Armella was born in Muenster, Texas on February 15, 1924. She grew up on the family farm north of Muenster. She attended Sacred Heart School. She and her twin sister made up the twelve children of Joseph C. and Mary Koelzer Flusche.
Armella married August (Gus) Lutkenhaus on November 21, 1944 at Sacred Heart. They set up housekeeping in the Hood Community on a farm where they raised wheat, corn, oats, hay, cotton, cattle, sheep, chickens and hogs. They were the parents of six children, four boys and two girls.
The family moved to the old homeplace in 1956, where she and Gus had since lived until his death. Armella continued living there.
Armella was a wonderful seamstress. She had a large garden where she raised all the vegetables for the family, canning and freezing enough for the winter months. She was an excellent cook and baked fresh bread each day. She made quilts and jewelry items, doilies, potholders and other items for gifts for her children and family friends.
Armella was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and belonged to the Home Demonstration of Cooke County and the Muenster club. She loved playing cards and dominoes with family and friends. She was a loving wife and mother and a friend to many. She will be greatly missed!
Armella is survived by: daughters: Norma and husband, John Kubicek of Valley View, Doris Muller and husband, WC of Muenster. The sons are: Walter and wife Kathleen Lutkenhaus, Dennis and wife Carolyn Lutkenhaus of Lindsay, Leo and wife Peggy of Muenster and Charles of Mesa, AZ. There are twenty grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren, a sister, Marie (Mrs. Lawrence) Zimmerer of Lindsay, and sister-in-law, Irene Wilson of Gainesville and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lorene and Henry Sandmann of Valley View.
Armella was preceded in death by her husband, August (Gus), parents, Joseph C. and Mary Koelzer Flusche, step mother, Frances Cresentia Flusche, sisters, Anna Henscheid, Ida Neu, Magdalene Zimmerer and Marcella Fetch and brothers, Lawrence, Alois, Conrad, Joe P., Andrew and Urban Flusche.
The family requests memorials be made to: The Muenster Volunteer Fire Department.
