Mass of Christian Burial for Ethel Catherine Knabe Hennigan Bayer, age 76 of Muenster is set for 10:00 AM, Saturday, May 2, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster with Father Ken Robinson officiating. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Scott Funeral Home of Muenster. A Rosary and Vigil will be held at 5:00 PM, Friday, May 1, 2015. Mrs. Bayer died Tuesday, April 28, 2015.
Ethel was born on February 1, 1939 in Muenster, the second of the eight children of Robert and Elizabeth (Schroeder) Knabe, Sr. She graduated from Sacred Heart Catholic School in 1957 and married Fred Hennigan, Jr. on June 15, 1957 in Sacred Heart Church. The children attended Muenster schools and Saint Jo schools. Ethel worked in various jobs, lingerie factory in Saint Jo, Texas Bar, Muenster Dress Factory, Corley’s Grocery Store in Saint Jo, the Saint Jo Nursing Home and St. Richard’s Villa Nursing Home in Muenster. She was an active participant in Sacred Heart Church as a Eucharistic minister in the church and the nursing home. She was a member of the Muenster VFW Auxiliary #6205 and the Saint Anne’s Society, and Alter Society of Sacred Heart Church. She loved wild flowers and harvested them and tossed them in different country areas. She also liked birds, especially red birds and hummingbirds. She had a special way with the ill and elderly people and especially taking care of her deceased husband and father in the illness. She then married Daniel Bayer on October 21, 2000 in Sacred Heart Church and they made their home in Muenster.
Mrs. Bayer is survived by her husband, Danny Bayer of Muenster; daughters: Diane Splawn of Muenster and Darlene and Gary Willett of Bowie; son, Billy Hennigan of Saint Jo; thirteen grandchildren: Leroy, Daniel, Samuel, Mathew, Conrad, Lydia, Joseph, Misty, Kristi, Bridget, Fred, Lauren, and Wade; eleven great grandchildren: Katie, Kylie, KK, Kylar, Keegan, Karman, Brookelyn, Brylie, and Baylie; sisters: Frances and Arthur Bayer of Muenster, Kathleen and Charles Hamilton of Myra, Mary and Billy Jack Deberry of Sherman, Barbara and Alfred Hacker of Valley View; brothers: Robert, Jr. and Rose Knabe of Alabama and Charles and Flora Mae Knabe of Muenster. She was preceded in death by her first husband Fred Hennigan, Jr., parents, Robert and Elizabeth (Schroeder) Knabe, Sr., son, Bobby Hennigan, and her brother Anthony (Tony) Knabe. Pallbearers were: Fred Ellis, Leroy Willett, Daniel Willett, Samuel Willet, Mathew Willet, and Conrad Willet. Honorary pallbearers were: Joseph Hennigan and Wade Trubenbach.
