Funeral services for Lucian A. Vaughn, age 94 of Saint Jo were held at 2:00 PM
Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Saint Jo First Baptist Church. Burial was in the
Illinois Bend Cemetery, in Montague County. Services were officiated by Rev.
Darius McKay and Rev. Jeff Roe and directed by McCoy Funeral Home of Saint Jo.
Lucian died in Denton at 1:03 AM Sunday, June 2, 2013.
Born May 22, 1919 in Illinois Bend, Lucian was an only child of E.E. and Minnie Sue Harmon Vaughn. He grew up on the family farm/ranch and graduated high school in Saint Jo. While growing up, Lucian helped his father with farming and raising cattle. He had lived all his life in the Saint Jo/Illinois Bend area prior to entering Cottonwood Nursing and Rehab Center in Denton.
Lucian married Nancy Ovie Howard on September 30, 1939 in Montague, Texas. They lived together in the Saint Jo area until her death in 1999.
Lucian and Ovie were the parents of a daughter, Audette and a son, Lucian, Jr. The two children grew up and completed high school in Saint Jo.
Lucian really enjoyed his family and friends. He would meet daily at the Saint Jo Dairy Queen just to have coffee with, share “lies” with and argue with the daily crew there. He was a long-longtime member of the Montague County School Board. The only reason he departed that board was because it disbanded. He was a lover of horses and was a member of the Saint Jo Riding Club from its onset until just recently, when he was moved to Denton.
Lucian lived a good long life. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
Survivors are his: daughter and son-in-law Audette and William H. Kincaid of Sanger; son and daughter-in-law Lucian, Jr. and Valerie Vaughn of Gainesville; five grandchildren: Lauren and Travis Vaughn, Cheryl-Annette Parker, Christina Freeman and Sharlene Kincaid; and 2 great grandchildren: Rylan Parker and Lillie Audette Freeman.
Lucian was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Ovie Vaughn and his parents, E.E. and Minnie Vaughn.
Pallbearers were: Craig McCrary, Dalton Lyons, Dudley Sparkman, Ross Felderhoff, Loyd Hutson, Ancil Thurman, and Dave Webster. Honorary Pallbearers were: JC Dunbar, James Cooksey, Doyle Castle, Noble Coker, Bob Ayers, Gene Parker, and Roy Brawner.
The family requests memorials be made to a charity of your choice.
