Gary Fisher

Gary James Fisher went to be with Our Lord on August 8, 2014 after a 2 year battle with Ocular Melanoma. Gary was born in Muenster, Texas on October 30, 1950 to Earl and Velma Evers Fisher; he was the 4th of 10 children. He is survived by his wife, Marlene Herr Fisher; his 3 children, Eric Jamison Fisher and wife, Jaclynn Fisher and 2 grandchildren, Grayson and Nolan Fisher; Karl Thomas Fisher; and Lana Fisher Hess and husband Cody Hess. Surviving siblings are Joan Fisher Demshock of Maryland, Doris Fisher of Washington, Robert Fisher of Colorado, Alan Fisher of Georgia, Janice Fisher Kincy of Texas, Mary Fisher Carnell of Colorado, Judy Fisher Newell of Texas and Glenn Fisher of Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Velma Evers Fisher and his sister Donna Fisher.
Gary attended Sacred Heart Catholic School from 1st-8th grade, and graduated high School from Muenster Public School. He got his BA in Business with a minor in insurance from North Texas State University (aka UNT).
He married Marlene Herr on June 11, 1977 and God blessed them with 3 beautiful children, Eric Jamison in 1981, Karl Thomas in 1985 and Lana Rose in 1986. Gary was all about family, community and “doing for others” to make life a little sweeter. He gave countless hours to numerous community organizations, without need or thought of being recognized, but rather because it was the right thing to do.
He was very active in Boy Scouts and served as Co-Scout Master with Chuck Bartush. He had the pleasure of taking scouts to Philmont twice and loved every minute, except for the caffeine withdrawals. Some of his favorite scouting activities were out-of-state high mountain adventure hikes and rock climbing.
He was an active Muenster Chamber of Commerce member and managed the Texas Stage at Germanfest for many years. He was instrumental in getting the Keep Muenster Beautiful Organization started and in Muenster receiving its first Governor Achievement Award beautification with his “Clean Sweep” program. The monetary award allowed for the purchase of Street Lamps on Hwy 82 and Main Street.
He was a member of the Muenster Kiwanis and had the vision and physical drive to turn the vacant lot just north of the Muenster State Bank into a park and to beautify the corners on Main Street with rocked flower beds.
Gary was happiest when he had 15+ projects in the works and he worked tirelessly on seeing them through to completion. This was also his greatest heartache as his disease progressed because he no longer had the energy to see his visions become reality.
Mass of Christian Burial for Gary Fisher, age 63 of Muenster was celebrated 10:00 AM Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Sacred Heart Community Center in Muenster with Rev. Ken Robinson officiating.
