Mattie Inez (Hale) Dennis

     Funeral services for Mattie Inez (Hale) Dennis, age 92, was scheduled for 3:00 PM Saturday, April 13, 2013 at the Landmark Missionary Baptist Church in Saint Jo. Services were officiated by Dr. Larry Cornell and Rev. Ricky Kerr and directed by McCoy Funeral Home. A visitation was set for 1:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home. She was laid to rest in Mountain Park Cemetery following the church service.
     Mrs. Dennis died at 10:50 PM Tuesday, April 9, 2013 in Fort Worth.
Mattie was born May 23, 1920 in Electra, Texas. She was one of the six children of Charles Richard and Bessie Lee (Day) Hale.
     The family had moved from Electra to Saint Jo in 1934. They lived near Capps Corner where she was raised and attended the Spencer School. There she met and married Elvin Eli Dennis on October 10, 1936. They were blessed with 5 children, 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
     Mattie was a homemaker who loved to cook for her family and friends, all of which enjoyed the labor of love from her vegetable gardens. She was an avid reader and enjoyed tending to her flower gardens.
     Mattie is survived by: daughters: Frances Poynor of Saint Jo, TX, Pat Jones of Fort Worth, TX, sons: Richard Dennis and wife Jeannine of Pilot Point, TX, Arnold Dennis and wife Judy, of Saint Jo, TX. She is also survived by two brothers, Lee and Archie Hale of Gainesville, TX. She leaves loving memories to be cherished by 13 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, and 9 great-great grandchildren.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Elvin E. Dennis, son Elvin Dennis Jr., granddaughter Kay Tompkins, great granddaughter Jessica Tompkins, brother Bert Hale, and sisters Betty Haggard and Bessie Harrell.
     Pallbearers were her grandsons: Billy Poynor, Mark Dennis, Paul Dennis, Scott Dennis, Brian Jones, Richard Dennis, Charles Robert Dennis, and James Fuller.
