Kenneth James Hampton

     1943 - 2015

Kenneth (Ken) Hampton, 71, of Montague, Texas, son of Milton and Dorothy Hampton, passed away February 14th at Bowie Memorial Hospital. Ken had battled lung cancer for the past 4 years and had been in remission since 2012. Although he had been cancer free, he ultimately succumbed to cardiovascular disease while recovering from knee replacement surgery.
Ken is survived by his mother, Dorothy Hampton, and six children: daughter Renee Lorenz of Dallas, daughter Kerri Gerrie and husband Jay of Austin, son Kelly Hampton and wife Amy of Dallas, daughter Belinda Lacey and husband Perry of Kemp, son James Hampton and wife Stacie of Carrollton, and daughter Lisa Medina of Frisco. He is also survived by ten grandchildren: Leslie Tibbs, Ashley Bosworth; Andrew Gerrie, Elizabeth Gerrie, Adam Gerrie, Anna Grace Gerrie; Emma Hampton & Ellis Charles Hampton; Tiffany Grubbs; Matthew Medina; and one great grandchild, Cayden Grubbs.
Ken was born and raised in Dallas where he played high school football at Woodrow Wilson High School. He enjoyed his years living in Dallas but moved to the family farm in Montague, where he could embrace the outdoors. He loved sharing fond memories of his youth and especially liked making others laugh with his quick wit and good sense of humor. Ken never met a stranger and always had that amazing smile. You could not find a bigger Dallas Cowboys fan, or O.U. fan. He loved talking about football, the weather, politics, wildlife, car racing and the wonders of outer space.
He will be greatly missed by all his family and friends.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, February 20th at the United Methodist Church in Montague with Senior Pastor Larry Coleman officiating. Interment will follow at the Montague Cemetery. Visitation will be held at 10:00 AM Friday at the church.
