Mass of Christian Burial for Dorothy
Hartman, age 95 of Muenster is set for 2:00 PM Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Muenster with Father Ken Robinson officiating.
Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery under the direction of Scott
Funeral Home of Muenster. A Rosary/Vigil will be held 6:00 PM, Tuesday,
November 25, 2014 also at the church. Dorothy died Sunday, November 23, 2014 at
her home.
Dorothy was born on the Hartman farm on
October 27, 1919, to John J. and Helena Hess Hartman. She lived there most of
her life, helping with the farming, milking cows, picking cotton and corn. She
was baptized by Father Frowin in Sacred Heart Church and attended the red brick
school house.
At age 18 she went to work for Dr. T. S.
Myrick as a night nurse for the Muenster clinic he was opening. She had on-the-job
training for babies and the women who had them. She worked for 2 years at
night, then switched to days. She worked as an office nurse, bookkeeper, and
clinic nurse. She did everything except surgery. She assisted in bringing
hundreds of babies into the world, treating many of her own nieces and nephews
and their children.
She served with Dr. Myrick until his death
in 1959, then with Dr. S. E. Saiken who came from Gainesville several days a
week. She also worked with Dr. Kenneth Dobbs before he moved to Dallas. During
a two-year time period when there was no doctor and no hospital in Muenster,
she was a check-out clerk at Hofbauer’s Grocery Store.
She was involved in the fund drive for the
new hospital and helped with the moving in of supplies. When the Muenster
Memorial Hospital opened its doors she served on the staff for six months. She
then went to work for Dr. B. F. Hejduk, the resident physician and surgeon,
working as his office nurse and assisting in surgeries. She worked for Dr.
Kralicke for 8 years and Dr. Juarez for 9 years. She retired in 1984.
She served as the local registrar for
precinct 8 for 37 years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary, Catholic
Daughters of America, served as a Eucharistic Minister at Sacred Heart, and served
on the parish liturgical commission.
In May of 1975 she received the
Jaycees Outstanding Citizen Award. In 2003 she was honored for 25 years of
service to the Muenster Senior Center. The Muenster Memorial Hospital
recognized her at their 50th anniversary as the first employee, Nurse
Assistant, February 3, 1964.
She was very active in SNAP, loved
crocheting and quilting. She enjoyed traveling, crafts, and playing cards and
dominoes. She was an avid Texas Ranger and Dallas Cowboy fan, rarely missing a
game on TV. She was a citizen of Muenster her entire life.
She is survived by 30 nieces and nephews,
numerous great-nieces and nephews, and many great-great-nieces and nephews.

Steve Corocoran, Justin Hartman, Craig Hartman, Jacob Endres, Jeff Flusche,
Joseph Dangelmayr, Alan Thompson, and Kirk Hartman.
A memorial service for Helen Marie (Evans)
Tompkins, age 78 of Muenster, is set for 2:00 PM, Sunday, December 14, 2014 at
Scott Funeral Home in Muenster. Ms. Tompkins died Friday, December 12, 2014 in
Muenster.
